Affordable Solar Power With Solar Grants in Ireland

Thinking about switching to solar power? Whether you’re a homeowner, a business, or a farmer, there are government grants available to help make it more affordable. At RJC Renewables, we’re SEAI-certified, meaning we understand the grants inside and out and can guide you through the process.

What Solar Grants Are Available?

SEAI Solar Electricity Grant (For Homeowners)

The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) offers the Solar Electricity Grant to help homeowners make the switch to renewable energy and generate their own electricity. By providing financial support towards the installation of solar panels, this grant aims to increase the affordability of solar power, allowing homeowners to reduce their energy bills and create a more environmentally friendly home.

Initial Grant

Get €700 for each kWp of solar panels you install, up to 2kWp. This means a typical 2kWp system can receive a significant €1400 reduction in the overall cost.

Mid-Size Systems

For a 3kWp system, you receive the initial €1400 (for 2kWp) plus an extra €200 for the additional kWp, totalling €1600 in savings.

Adding More

For every extra kWp you choose to install between 2kWp and 4kWp, the grant increases by an additional €200, incentivising slightly larger systems.

Grant Cap

The maximum total Solar PV grant any homeowner can receive is capped at €1800.

Reduces Installation Costs

The grant directly lowers the initial investment required to install solar panels on a residential property.

Encourages Green Homes & Lower Bills

By making solar more affordable, the grant promotes the adoption of clean energy, leading to reduced electricity expenses for homeowners.

Non-Domestic Microgen Grant (For Businesses & Organisations)

The Non-Domestic Microgen Grant offers a significant financial boost for businesses, schools, community groups, and non-profits aiming to install solar PV systems. By providing a one-time payment based on the installed capacity, the grant helps reduce the upfront cost of going solar, making it easier for organisations to lower their energy bills, enhance their sustainability, and reduce their reliance on the national grid for self-consumption.

How the Non-Domestic Microgen Grant Works:

Grant per kWp

Receive a one-time payment of €1,626 for every kilowatt (kW) of installed solar PV capacity.

Maximum Funding

The total grant available per project is capped at €30,000.

Focus on Self-Use

Primarily targets businesses and organisations installing solar for their own electricity consumption.

Lowers Initial Investment

Directly helps to reduce the upfront costs of purchasing and installing a solar system.

Encourages Sustainability

Facilitates the adoption of clean energy and the reduction of carbon emissions.

Supports Energy Savings

Enables organisations to generate their own power and significantly lower their energy bills.

TAMS 3 Solar Capital Investment Scheme
(For Farmers)

The Targeted Agricultural Modernisation Scheme (TAMS 3) offers a significant opportunity for farmers to invest in solar power, reduce their energy costs, and enhance farm efficiency. With substantial grant funding available, TAMS 3 aims to support the agricultural sector in becoming more energy independent and lowering overall operating expenses through the adoption of renewable energy technologies like solar PV.

How the TAMS 3 Solar Capital Investment Scheme Works for Farmers:

Up to 60% Grant Aid

Eligible farmers can receive grant funding covering up to 60% of the approved investment costs for solar installations.

Investment Ceiling

The maximum investment ceiling for solar PV and related equipment is set at €90,000.

Covers Key Components

The grant funding is applicable to essential solar PV system components, including solar panels, battery storage solutions, inverters, and associated installation costs.

Focus on Cost Reduction

The primary goal is to help farmers lower their ongoing energy expenses, making their operations more financially sustainable.

Enhances Energy Independence

By supporting the adoption of on-farm solar generation, the scheme aims to reduce reliance on external energy sources.

Modernisation & Efficiency

Investing in solar power aligns with the broader objectives of TAMS 3, promoting modernisation and increased efficiency within the agricultural sector.
